EARN Elektroaltgeräte Service GmbH
Since 2005 (electrical appliances) and 2006 (batteries), the European Directives on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU) and Waste Batteries (Directive 2006/66/EC) have required manufacturers and distributors to, among other things, take responsibility for the take-back and recycling of their equipment.
However, the above-mentioned directives have no direct effect, but have been transposed into national law by the individual member states. At the same time, these directives serve as a basis for comparable regulations in countries outside the EU.
EARN Elektroaltgeräte Service GmbH was founded in Vienna in 2005 in order to offer manufacturers and distributors of electrical appliances holistic and transnational solutions for the fulfilment of their responsibilities arising from country-specific legislation as well as for the take-back and recycling of WEEE and spent batteries.
The abbreviation EARN stands for European Advanced Recycling Network. EARN's shareholders comprise of the leading recovery and recycling companies Coolrec BV - Netherlands, Electrocycling GmbH – Germany and Indumetal SA – Spain.
In addition to the recovery facilities of the shareholders, there is a network of efficient recycling partners in the countries of Europe and neighbouring regions for the collection and take-back of WEEE and spent batteries.
The aim is to recycle old appliances in their own country and to avoid cross-border waste transports.
EARN ensures that manufacturers and distributors of electrical equipment, batteries and the packaging required for distribution meet all the requirements of the respective national rules and laws. In detail, EARN's service includes the following:
The know-how gained from 17 years of compliance service for many hundreds of manufacturers and distributors from all countries of the world as well as the extensive practical experience of EARN partners and associates in dealing with WEEE and spent batteries form the perfect basis for fulfilling the services and implementing the requirements for manufacturers and distributors from European legislation.
